Kylie Dunphy has returned home to Island Falls after spending the past three months in London, where she majored in environmental studies. While there she stayed in an apartment (flat) which she shared with other students and thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the customs and ways that people in other countries have.
Kylie is the daughter of Scott and Carol Dunphy and was home in time to share the Christmas holidays with them, and then she will be off to Farmington to finish her studies.
I had a call the other day from Sally Morton, and she informed me that Dusty Brown will be holding a country jamboree at the Island Falls Snowmobile Clubhouse on Jan. 7, and again on Jan. 21, and these will be held starting at 2 p.m. and going until 4. Everyone is very welcome, and if you play an instrument bring it along with you, and if you sing that would be fine, too. Everyone likes a sing-along.
I have been away for awhile, staying in Bangor with son, Tom, as I recuperated from a minor surgical procedure. Got home in time for the big storm and then this terrifically cold aftermath.
I still have the birds that feed every day, despite the cold and the wind — lots of finch, chickadees, nuthatches, and once in a while a blue jay shows up. Now, the past week or so, I have seen quite a few juncos, and they also like the spicy seeds.
I was walking by the big window in my living room and glanced out, and there was a lonely deer standing in the snow by one of the cedar trees. She was busily chewing away at a branch that was hanging quite low because of the snow. My backyard is now filled with a lot of deer tracks, but they must show up when it’s dark and I’m not looking.
