PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Boys & Girls Club (PI-BGC) has been awarded, for the second year in a row, a grant from the New Hampshire Motor Speedway’s chapter of the Speedways Children’s Charity (SCC).
Club officials announced the award Jan. 2, explaining the SCC is dedicated to helping children. Through a variety of events and fundraisers held throughout the year, each SCC chapter raises funds to be distributed in their local communities. These funds are distributed in the form of one-time grants among worthy non-profit organizations that address the needs of children.
The PI-BGC will use the grant to support their “Power Hour” tutoring program. The “Power Hour: Making Minutes Count” program helps club members ages 6-18 achieve academic success by providing homework help, tutoring and high-yield learning activities, while encouraging members to become self-directed learners.
Club representatives said this grant will build on the academic success last year’s funding helped to fuel, helping their professional tutors to implement strategies and high-yield learning activities. The tutors will have access to information and resources to create a successful homework help and tutoring program.
The mission of the PI-BGC is to enable all young people, especially those who need us the most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Boys & Girls Clubs around the nation, like the PI-BGC, help kids and teens develop skills, make lasting connections and have fun. Club members experience a safe place to learn, play and grow; develop supporting relationships with caring mentors and enjoy enriching programs, experience and activities.
