HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run accident that occured Wednesday, Jan. 3, at the intersection of Court and Military streets.
According to Houlton Police Chief Tim DeLuca, Kristen McQuade of Houlton was traveling north on Court Street in a 2015 Dodge Durango shortly after 6:30 a.m. when another vehicle apparently was unable to stop at a red light due to the slick road conditions and struck McQuade’s SUV.]
That vehicle, a Honda Odyssey minivan, hit and forced McQuade’s SUV into a snowbank near the Fairpoint administrative building causing extensive front-end damage.
The minivan then fled the scene, but was located a short time later in an alley off Court Stree, according to the chief.
DeLuca declined to divulge the name of the minivan’s owner, but did indicate that police spoke with the individual and that charges likely will be filed against the driver. The owner of the vehicle was not believed to be the driver at the time of the incident, the chief said.
“We (as a community) need to be extremely diligent and look out for one another,” Chief DeLuca said. “The snow banks are a lot higher now and the roads are still slippery. People needed to slow down, not follow so close and give yourself plenty of time to stop.”
He added parking lots are another area where his department has seen a spike in motor vehicle accidents in the past few weeks.
