RICHARD FRANK MCMANUS, PATTEN – Richard Frank McManus, 90, passed away on December 31, 2017. He was born in Moro, on February 11, 1927, to Laura (Fleming) and Chester McMannus.
Richard grew up on a farm in Northern Maine and spent most of his life working in the woods and in lumber mills. He was a farmer, carpenter, mechanic, electrician, plumber, and furniture maker. He was a volunteer firefighter in Patten for many years and served on the planning board for the town and on the board of the Lumberman’s Museum. He was one of the Greatest Generation, serving his country in World War II. He and Pauline were always ready to help anyone in anyway they could, usually quietly and behind the scenes.
Richard is survived by his three children, Marilyn Collins (fiancé Bill Richardson), Brian McManus, and Anne McManus-Grant (Scott). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Katrina Main-Dorsky (James), D’arcy Main-Boyington (Daryl), Richard Main, Eric McManus, Alexander Grant (Cassidy) and Claire Grant; great-grandchildren, Aaron Ellis (Nicole), Matthew Muwin (fiancé Kristen Hoffses), Jed Boyington, and Reid McManus. Richard was the very proud great-great-grandfather of Austin and Isabella Ellis and Scarlett Greene. Richard was the eldest of four children. He is survived by his aunt, Viola Currie; his brother, Keith McManus, and many nieces and nephews, including Mike and Lisa Harvey, who were very special to him and always there to help. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 67 years, Pauline (Harvey); a brother, Sterling McManus; a sister, Kathleen Main; and a son-in-law, Dick Collins.
His family would like to thank the staffs of Visiting Nurses of Aroostook and Mountain Heights Nursing Home in Patten for the excellent care Richard received.
At Richard’s request, there will be no funeral. There will, however, be a celebration of his life in the summer, at a date to be determined. For an online memory book and to leave condolences please visit www.bowersfuneral.com
