The UMPI women won for only the second time this season in the first of two games in Vermont, while the Owl men were handled at home by a talented and hot-shooting Bowdoin team in Tuesday’s college basketball action.
Coach Gavin Kane’s UMPI women charged back from being four points down early in the fourth quarter to defeat Vermont Tech, 65-45, in Randolph Center, Vermont.
The Owls improved to 2-8 by holding the Knights without a field goal over a 4:27 stretch in the final period and going on a 12-1 run to take control. Emilia Churchill, a sophomore from Washburn, came off the bench to provide 18 points and eight rebounds to lead UMPI. Rhylee Wright, a sophomore from Frenchville, added 17 points and 13 boards.

The Owls will take on Fisher College of Boston in Vermont at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

The UMPI men were no match for the Bowdoin Polar Bears, falling 81-62. Bowdoin, now 10-3, went up by 18 points at halftime by nailing seven of its 14 3-point attempts and they continued to control things the rest of the way.
David Reynolds scored 22 points to lead the Polar Bears and teammate Jack Simonds had 16 points, including the 1,000th of his career, to go along with five rebounds and five assists.
Deandre Duncombe led UMPI with 14 points and five rebounds and Jahvion Lockridge came off the bench to contributed 13. Kevin Collins hit three 3-pointers and ended up with 12 points for the 7-7 Owls of coach Dan Kane, who return to the court against SUNY-Delhi Monday at 7 p.m. in Delhi, New York.
