100 Years Ago – Jan. 16, 1918

    Attend meeting Messrs. Ira Porter, Willard Weston, Harry B. Crawford, A. A. Stewart, A. G. Merritt and Roland Hovey, were in Presque Isle to attend the annual meeting of the Aroostook County Patrons Fire Insurance Co..

    Come together The annual meeting of the Aroostook County Press Association was held in Houlton with representatives from different papers in the County.

75 Years Ago – Jan. 21, 1943

    Guest speaker Dr. W. J. Wilkinson, professor of history at Colby College, will be the speaker at the annual meeting and banquet of the Houlton Chamber of Commerce to be held January 28 at the Northland, according to an announcement made by President J. R. Harvey.

    Cooperation needed An appeal to all consumers for the immediate discontinuance of all unnecessary use of electric current was made by Supt. J. Norman Mullen of the Houlton Water Company following a demand for curtailment throughout the Aroostook County area by Maine Public Utilities Commission. Lack of precipitation, which has seriously depleted the storage and groundwater supply of the Aroostook River, thus hampering the production of electric power for the entire area, was given as the reason.

50 Years Ago – Jan. 17, 1968

    Trip Ralph Berry and R. A. Palmer Jr., returned last week from a 10-day trip to Boston and New York. While away they attended the New York Auto Show.

    Attend wedding Mr.  and Mrs. T. V. Doherty left last week for a trip to Boston, Washington and other places. They attended the Donovan-O’Hara wedding in Boston on Jan. 15.

25 Years Ago – Jan. 20, 1993

   Donation Betty Ann Childers, president of the Houlton Regional Hospital Auxiliary, presented Bradley Bean with an  $8,000 check to benefit the TV project.

   Receives scholarship — Susie Ann Farrar of Houlton, a junior accounting major at the University of Maine, is the recipient of a $1,500 merit scholarship form Middlesex Mutual Assurance Co.  Farrar, daughter of Rodney and Irene Farrar of Houlton, is the seventh recipient of the scholarship established in December 1985 by Middlesex Mutual.
