Ethel L. Knox

EASTON, Maine – Ethel L. Knox, 86, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018, at the Aroostook Health Center in Mars Hill. She was born on September 3, 1931, in Easton, the daughter of Clifton and Marion (Crouse) Hammond. She grew up on the family farm with her younger brother, Clif.

Ethel attended Easton High School. On December 15, 1951, Ethel married Dana Knox, and they settled for a time in Washington, DC, five years later they welcomed their daughter, Rae-Lynn. The family moved several times while in the Air Force, including Dover, Delaware, and Belleville, Illinois, but Aroostook was always their home. So, when Dana retired in 1969 they moved home.
Although Ethel never worked outside the home and she had only one child, she touched the hearts of so many more. Fond memories at the house down the hill from the school, hands of cards on Sunday, Squa Pan or summers poolside, honking horns at soccer games and mac and cheese with fruit cocktail.
She is survived by her daughter, Rae-Lynn Hewitt and her husband, Michael, a granddaughter, Jaime and her husband, Adam, of Old Town, a grandson, Chad Hewitt and his wife, Heidi, of Easton, four great-grandchildren, Colby, Brandon, Libby, and Camryn. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Dana Knox. The family wishes to express our thanks and appreciation to the staff of Mars Hill Nursing Home for their many years of care.
A graveside service will be held in the summer of 2018 at Estes Park Cemetery, Easton. Those who wish may donate in her memory to the Maine Veterans Home, 163 Van Buren Road, Caribou, ME 04736. Online condolences may be shared at www.duncan-graves.com
