NORMA LYNN (CURRIE) GOEL, SYRACUSE, NY – Norma Lynn (Currie) Goel, 78, passed away on December 31, 2017. She was born in Houlton, Maine.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charlotte (Moir) Currie and Clayton Mooers Currie. She is survived by her sister, Carol (Currie) Schultz of Florida; her children Alok and (Danielle) Goel, Nandita Goel, Neha and (Eric) Stowe. Norma adored her role as Grammie to William Stowe and Maya Goel.
Norma graduated from the University of Maine in 1961 and worked as a lab technician for several years at Harvard University. She joined the Peace Corps in 1964 and spent two very formative years in India. Upon her return she pursued a graduate program in Indian Studies at the University of Wisconsin and in anthropology at Syracuse University.
Norma spent her career in various human service administrative positions, working for the Onondaga County Mental Health Dept., The NYS Dept. of Mental Hygiene, and the ARC of Onondaga. In 2000 she began her second career in social work at a basic needs outreach program sponsored by University United Methodist Church.
Norma loved her home at Blue Mountain Lake in the Adirondacks, her dogs, traveling, following Syracuse University basketball, and more than anything, her family.
A Celebration of Norma’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at Freedom Village Brandywine, located at 15 Freedom Blvd, West Brandywine, PA, with Reverend Jamie Kaufman officiating.
