The Houlton Council of Catholic Women met Jan. 2 at 5:30 in the Parish Center.  There were 12 members and Deacon Al present.

President Sue Hardy led the group in our opening prayer, salute to the flag and cross and hymn.  Deacon Al said a blessing and the group enjoyed a lunch provided by the January committee.

Following the lunch, President Sue Hardy conducted the business meeting.  Kathy Klein, co-secretary, read the secretary’s report from the December meeting. Treasurer Jane Mitchell gave the treasurer’s report.  Alta Reardon, corresponding secretary, read thank you cards.  Jane Stile, historian, informed us of a 1977 toy drive headed by Mary Greaney and Lois Downing which raised funds for food baskets.  She also gave us information from 1984, when Joyce and Urban Hughes made cradles and accessories  for dolls for the Salvation Army and foster care children.

The January meeting of MDCCW will be in Hallowell.

Our Valentine bag project was discussed.  We will be preparing bags for shut ins at our next meeting.

Lynette Dobbs read a prayer titled “Dancing With God”.

Rosary at Madigan Estates and Gardiner will continue at 10:30 on the third Friday and Monday of the month.

Sue Hardy won the door prize.

January birthdays and anniversaries were noted.

Prayer intentions were gathered.  We closed with five Hail Mary’s.

Our next meeting will be Feb. 5 at 5:30 in the Parish Center.  All Catholic ladies are invited to attend.
