CARIBOU, Maine — A week after losing by a point, the Viking wrestling team turned the tables on the Fort Kent Warriors.
On Wednesday at Caribou High School, the hosts pulled off a 42-41 triumph. On Jan. 10, Fort Kent had picked up a 37-36 home victory.
Vikings senior Evan Michaud crept closer to the 100-win mark for his career as he won by forfeit in the 138-pound division. Cory Jandreau collected the 74th pin and the 101st victory of his career by defeating the Warriors’ Alex Beaulieu in the 145-pound weight class.
Caleb Robbins won by fall over Caitlyn Daigle in 120, while Tristan Soucier (126), Angel Riopelle (132), Jonah Thayer (195) and Mason Smith (220) scored victories to round out Caribou’s point total on the evening.
Picking up wins in contested matches for Fort Kent were Lance Daigle by technical fall over Rylee Saucier in 106 and Reece Pelletier (152), Ian Dubois (160), C.J. Rocheleau (170) and Jordan Labbe (182), all by fall over their Viking opponents Kaden DeMerchant, Matthew McCormack, Maxwell Lister and Cage Lister.
Colin Biggs in 113 and Immanuel Pettengill (275) both won by forfeit for Fort Kent.
The Vikings are now 5-6 in dual meets and travel to Ellsworth Saturday and to Bucksport Jan. 27 for season-ending tournaments before championship events begin in early February.
“We have lots to learn, do and accomplish until then,” said Caribou coach James “Chico” Hernandez. “We have a very fun team and these kids make me smile every time. I am proud of them no matter what they do.”
