Jackson and Bartley lead way in classic ski race at NHC

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Presque Isle Wildcat seniors Izzy Jackson and Max Bartley skied to first-place finishes at Thursday’s cross country classic event at the Nordic Heritage Center.

Jackson took the girls’ race in 18 minutes and 58.1 seconds. The Caribou girls’ team won the event with 16 points. Fort Kent and Ashland tied for second, each totaling 36 points on the day.

For the girls, Caribou’s Ciara Richards finished second, with a time of 21:23.1. Ashland’s Kassandra Nelson was third in 21:50.9. Willow Hall of Ashland, Abigail Wimmer of Caribou, Jessica Halsey of Fort Fairfield and Kirsten Main of Central Aroostook followed in consecutive order.

Bartley prevailed among boys in a time of 15:16.1. The Viking boys won as a team, compiling a meet-low 19 points. They were followed by Fort Kent (28) and Presque Isle (43).

Individually for boys, Niko Naranja of Fort Kent was the runner-up in 16:48.5 and Emerson Duplissie-Cyr of Caribou ended up third in 17:30.5. Viking skiers Devin White, Evan Desmond, Alec Cyr, Dakota Yakel and Kyle Boucher all finished among the top 10. Tristan Pelletier of Ashland came in 12th overall and was his team’s top finisher.

Madawaska and MSSM were the local ski teams which did not participate in this competition.
