MADAWASKA, Maine — On Monday, Jan. 22, the Owls hosted a classic-style ski meet and all the local teams except for Presque Isle participated. Caribou kept its season-long winning streak alive with victories in both the boys and girls divisions.
The Vikings boys scored 14 points, which put them ahead of Fort Kent (28), MSSM (46), Madawaska (55) and Ashland (67). Emerson Duplissie-Cyr came through with the individual triumph with a time of 16 minutes and 14 seconds on the 5-kilometer course. Teammate Alec Cyr was second in 16:22.6, followed by Niko Naranja of Fort Kent in third in 16:56.7, Harrison Walters of MSSM in fourth (17:23.1) and Dakota Yakel of Caribou in fifth (17:35.6).
Caribou had two others, sixth-place finisher Devin White and ninth-place Noah Hixon, in the top 10, aiding the team triumph.
Tristan Pelletier was Ashland’s fastest skier in 18:59.9, good for 17th overall out of 35 finishers.
The Caribou girls won with 24 points, ahead of MSSM (43), Madawaska (44), Ashland (46) and Fort Kent (53). Isabelle Jandreau of Madawaska took top honors in 17:52.8, with Dolcie Tanguay of MSSM the runner-up in 19:34.6. Ciara Richards of Caribou (20:45.1) and Ashland teammates Kassandra Nelson (20:50.3) and Willow Hall (21:25.3) rounded out the top five.
The victorious Vikes had three others finishing among the top 10 out of the 35 participants. They were Abigail Wimmer, Macy Wakem and Jojo Fields, who were seven, eighth and ninth, respectively.
The next Nordic meet will be of the freestyle variety and will take place Friday at 3 p.m. at the Nordic Heritage Center in Presque Isle.
