PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Presque Isle senior guard Emily Wheaton has committed to attend Husson University this fall and will join the Eagles’ basketball program.
“Emily is one of the top players in the state. I believe she is the best point guard and can play with anyone, her skills are very polished and she has a tremendous work ethic,” said head coach Kissy Walker. “Emily will make an immediate impact on our program, we are super excited that she has chosen Husson University.”
Wheaton, an all-conference, all-County and all-tournament team selection her sophomore and junior year, averaged 18.9 points, 4.7 assists, two steals and was named to the All-State Third Team in her junior year at Presque Isle. She is currently averaging about 20 points, five assists and three steals along with four rebounds per game.
Wheaton was also named to the preseason all-state second team and surpassed the 1,000-point career milestone earlier this month.
“She knew we needed her to do pretty much everything this year and she has done it,” stated Presque Isle head women’s basketball coach Jeff Hudson. “She doesn’t just score, she distributes the ball, she handles the ball against the press and when we need a basket, she comes through.”
The guard is the second commitment of the 2018 recruiting class. Wheaton plans on studying elementary education at Husson. She is the daughter of David and Leslie Wheaton of Mapleton.
