The Houlton girls basketball team puts its season-long unbeaten streak on the line Tuesday as the Shires make the trip to Caribou for a 7 p.m. contest against the Vikings.
Houlton is at 13-0 and in first place in the Class C North standings, while Caribou stands at 8-7 and is in sixth place in Class B. The two teams played in Houlton Dec. 19, with the Shires coming away with a 65-53 victory.
Easton plays at Fort Fairfield in another girls’ game, which begins at 7 p.m., while the Washburn boys travel north to take on Fort Kent, also at 7 p.m.
In hockey, the Houlton-Hodgdon-Southern Aroostook-Katahdin Black Hawks host John Bapst at Millar Civic Center at 6 p.m.
Summaries of games played Monday are as follows:
Girls basketball
Presque Isle 53, Orono 33 — At Presque Isle, Emily Wheaton scored 29 points in leading the Wildcats past the Red Riots. Maggie Castonguay added eight points for PI, which netted 10 3-point field goals in the contest.
Ellie Sockabasin paced Orono with eight points.
Ashland 49, Washburn 29 — At Ashland, Amber Chasse scored a game-high 16 points as the Hornets secured their eighth victory of the season.
Jamie Poulin added 12 points while Megan Cote had seven points and 10 rebounds and Cami Deabay also scored seven points for Ashland.
Kassie Farley scored 12 points for 3-11 Washburn.
Easton 41, Wisdom 31 — The Bears won for the fourth time this season, besting the winless Pioneers in St. Agatha. Individual scoring was not reported.
Woodland 84, East Grand 29 — At Danforth, Sadie Smith scored 21 points and Brook Russell added 19 to help the Dragons roll by the Vikings. Emily Curtis chipped in with 18 points for the Dragons (12-3).
Mallory Gillman paced East Grand (3-11) with 10 points.
Woodland led 29-4, 51-12 and 67-22 at the quarter breaks.
Madawaska 56, Katahdin 39 — At Madawaska, Hannah Nadeau and Jenna Dugal each scored 17 points to lead the Owls past Katahdin of Stacyville.
Haley Landry scored 14 points and Hannah Drew 13 for Katahdin.
Katahdin led 14-13 in the first quarter, but scored just two points in the second period, resulting in a 37-16 halftime advantage for the Owls. Madawaska led 50-28 after three quarters.
Madawaska is now 9-5 while Katahdin falls to 8-7.
Boys basketball
Presque Isle 66, Orono 47 — At Presque Isle, senior guard Griffin Guerrette scored a game-high 35 point, including the 1,000th of his career with 4:01 to play in the fourth quarter, as the Wildcats pulled away from Orono in the second half to improve their record to 11-4.
Jack Bonville sparked PI with nine points off the bench and Trace Cyr totaled eight.
Connor Robertson, who suffered a knee injury early in the second half, scored 12 points to lead Orono.

Ashland 61, Washburn 33 — At Ashland, the Hornets used big games by Baily Clark and Steven Bellanceau to beat the Beavers.
Clark scored 18 points and grabbed 19 rebounds and Bellanceau had 12 points and 10 boards. Dylan Haley also scored 12 for the winners.
Patrick Saucier led Washburn with 12 points and Aidan Churchill added 11.
Easton 63, Wisdom 52 — Collin Sotomayor’s 19 points lifted the Bears to a road win over the Pioneers. Easton improved to 9-6 and Wisdom, led by Dylan Weyeneth’s 15, fell to 4-11.
Katahdin 54, Madawaska 46 — At Madawaska, Tristan Cyr scored 18 points and Tristan Cyr added 15 to lead the Owls by the Cougars of Stacyville.
Brody Guiggey scored 28 points to lead Katahdin.
Woodland 75, East Grand 42 — The host-Vikings proved no match for top-ranked Woodland Monday evening. The Dragons improved to 13-1, while East Grand dropped to 4-10 on the year. Individual results were not reported.
GHCA 52, Hodgdon 46 — At Hodgdon, the host-Hawks nearly overcame a 32-16 deficit at the half with a strong second-half surge, but that rally fell short as GHCA came away with the victory.
Isaac Potter scored 17 points to lead the Eagles (9-5), while Will Austin added 14 points and Parker Brewer had 11.
Hodgdon (5-11) was led by Josh Palmer with 15 points and Ethan Carter who had 12.
The Hawks pulled within one possession (47-44) with 2:13 to play on a pair of free throws by Palmer, but that would be as close as Hodgdon would get. Will Austin sank a pair of free throws with 45 seconds remaining to make it a two possession game (49-44). Cole Winslow added another free throw to push the lead to 50-44 with just under 30 seconds.
Carter pulled Hodgdon within four with a nifty post move with 22.3 seconds to go, prompting Hodgdon coach Rob Smith to call timeout. On the ensuing possession, the Hawks stole the ball, but could not convert the opportunity.
Potter iced the game with a pair of foul shots with 7.1 seconds to go for the decisive 52-46 victory.
Houlton 87, Stearns 20 — At Houlton, the Shires rolled to the landslide victory over Stearns. Nolan Porter led Houlton with 16 points, while Cam Cleary added 14 and Drew Foley chipped in 11. Houlton improves to 12-3 while Stearns drops to 1-12.
Hockey
Presque Isle 3, John Bapst 2 (OT) — Riley Kinney scored off a Bailey York assist 1:37 into overtime to lead the Wildcats to the win Monday.
Thomas Patenaude netted a pair of goals and Jake Stevens assisted on both for the Wildcats. Andre Daigle faced 24 shots in goal.
Jon Archambault and Ben Spear each scored for the Crusaders and the team’s goalie, Dan Sprague, faced 35 shots.
“It was an intense game from start to finish and our boys never gave up,” Presque Isle head coach Carl Flynn said.
