PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — DeAndre Duncombe of the University of Maine at Presque Isle men’s basketball team was named Rookie of the Week by the Maine Men’s Basketball Coaches and Writers Association.
Duncombe, a freshman from Port St. Lucie, Florida, averaged 17.3 points, 5 assists, and 2.7 rebounds in a 2-1 week for the Owls. Duncombe scored 23 points and had four assists in a 71-67 overtime win over UM-Machias Jan. 24. He followed up that performance with 14 points and eight assists on Jan. 25 in a 97-84 win at UM-Augusta. Duncombe then tallied 15 points Jan. 28 as the Owls fell to Fisher College, 81-65.
Teammate Maurice Harris was recognized on the MMBCWA weekly Honor Roll team. The senior from Miami, Florida nearly averaged a double double for the week as he averaged 16 points and 9 rebounds.
Harris’ week was highlighted with 28 points and 10 rebounds in a win against UM-Augusta. He also had 10 points and 12 rebounds in the Owls’ win over UM-Machias scoring 10 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, including, the game sealing block at the end of the game that led to a breakaway dunk for Duncombe.
