WASHBURN, Maine — Auditions for the Children’s Stage Adventures production of “Cry Wolf” will be held on Monday, Feb. 12, at 2:30 p.m. at Washburn District Elementary School.
Approximately 50 local children, grades 1-8, will be cast to appear in the show with CSA actors/educators Morgan Swan and Eric Monzel. The performance will take place Friday, Feb. 16, at 6:30 p.m. at WDES. Tickets will be available at the door for $7 each.
“Cry Wolf” is a new musical version of the classic fairytale “The Boy Who Cried Wolf.” The story takes place in Kleinstadt, a small town in the Bavarian Alps, just as they prepare for their annual Stinky Cheese Festival. Friedrich is the new shepherd in town, replacing his aging grandfather. A pack of hungry wolves is roaming the countryside and threatening the sheep. Friedrich must protect the flock from the wolves by crying “Wolf.”
Peer pressure causes Friedrich to call the alarm falsely, and the townspeople lose trust in him. When the wolves finally attack, he cries out but no ones comes to his aid. A crazy chase runs through town ending with the sheep being saved and the wolves banished again. Everyone learns the important lesson about always telling the truth.
Children planning to audition should arrive by 6:30 and plan to stay for the entire two-hour session. No advanced preparation is necessary to audition.
Rehearsals will be conducted from 2:30 to 4:30 and 5 to 7 p.m. every day of the week prior to performances. Although not all cast members will be needed at every session, those auditioning must have a clear schedule for the entire week, and if selected, be able to attend all rehearsals for their role. Organizers will issue a detailed rehearsal schedule.
Cast members scheduled to rehearse for the full four hours in one day will receive snacks before the first rehearsal and a small meal before the second one.
Swan, from Woodland, and Monzel of North Ferrisburgh, Vt., will serve as CSA’s actor/educators. This is their second tour with CSA and both have extensive backgrounds working with children in theatre.
