Caribou area loses power for about 6 ½ hours Monday

CARIBOU, Maine — A little under 1,400 Emera Maine customers in the Caribou area lost power for about 6 ½ hours early Monday morning because of equipment issues on part of the line, according to the company.

The power went out at about 2:54 a.m. and was restored to everyone by 9:22 a.m., according to Emera spokesperson Judy Long.

Karen Hanson of Caribou said she was without power when she woke up around 8 a.m. and wasn’t sure exactly when it went off. She just awoke to a cold house and had to revert to using her fireplace, something that she doesn’t like to do.

“People say that they are cozy and they are, but I am just always afraid of fire,” she said at about 9 a.m. “We have the chimney cleaned every year, but I still get nervous. I don’t mind power outages that much. The only thing that annoys me is that I work from home, so when we lose power, I also lose internet access. I just have to hope that power is restored quickly.”

Emera customers may report outages via the Emera website or by calling the company’s Customer Contact Center at (207) 973-2000 or 1-855-EMERA11 (1-855-363-7211).
