LIMESTONE, Maine — The search continues here for a new town manager as well as for residents to serve on a committee to help select that person.
The Board of Selectpeople fired former Town Manager Matthew Pineo on Dec. 7 after 10 weeks on the job and while he was still in his probationary period. The board then appointed Police Chief Stacey Mahan to serve as interim manager on Dec. 13 and voted on Dec. 20 to form a committee consisting of both citizens and municipal officials in an effort to get the community more involved in the selection process.
While the board set a cutoff date for Feb. 23, Selectperson Melissa Devoe clarified during the board’s Feb. 6 meeting that they won’t necessarily close the application process, but just do a “first review” of applicants up to that point.
Devoe then asked Mahan if he received any calls from citizens interested in joining the committee to hire the new manager.
“I’ve had a couple people call,” he said. “We haven’t done anything with it yet; we haven’t put anything together for people to sign.”
Selectman Fred Pelletier assured Mahan that the town still has enough time to form the committee.
