Churches to hold Lenten Luncheons

HOULTON, Maine — Churchgoers are welcome to food and fellowship at the ecumenical Lenten Luncheons and other events hosted by member churches of the Southern Aroostook Ministerial Association (SAMA).

St. Mary’s Catholic, Houlton United Methodist, Military Street Baptist churches, as well as the Church of the Good Shepherd are joining forces this year for the series of lunches.

Each Wednesday, starting Feb. 21, a Lenten luncheon will be held from noon to 1 p.m. through March 21. The schedule for the luncheons are as follows: Feb. 21, St. Mary’s Catholic Church; Feb. 28, Houlton United Methodist Church; March 7, Church of the Good Shepherd (Watson Hall); March 14, Church on the Hill/Military Street Baptist; and March 21, Salvation Army.

Ecumenical services planned for Holy Week are: March 29, Maundi Thursday meal, 6-8 p.m. (RSVP by calling 532-2322); March 30, Good Friday Service, noon-1 p.m., Good Shepherd; and April 1, Easter Sunrise Service, 6:30 a.m., St. Mary’s porch followed by free breakfast at the Unitarian Church.

All donations given at the above events go to the Salvation Army.
