Man arrested, accused of firing shots during argument in Portage

PORTAGE LAKE, Maine — A man from Portage Lake is facing aggravated reckless conduct charges for allegedly shooting at another man during an argument in a home Sunday night, according to Maine State Police.

Matthew Valone, 47 of Portage Lake, was arrested after MSP troopers surrounded a home where a 911 caller reported at about 9:30 p.m. that Valone had fired multiple gun shots during a verbal altercation inside.

On the way to the location, police stopped one man driving away from the residence. The man told officers that Valone had fired multiple shots in the home in the midst of an argument, according to the press release. The man said he was not hit.

After police surrounded the place, Valone exited the home and was arrested by state police troopers without incident, according to the release.

Valone was taken to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton and charged with class B aggravated reckless conduct. He remained at the jail Monday with bail set at $5,000, according to jail officials.

Maine State Police said their investigation into the incident continues.
