OLD TOWN, Maine — The Houlton-Hodgdon-Southern Aroostook-Katahdin hockey team significantly improved its playoff chances Friday evening as the Black Hawks knocked off previously unbeaten Old Town/Orono.
A.J. Henderson produced what turned out to be the game winner off a pass from Nick DeLucca 1:40 into overtime to give the Black Hawks the victory.
After the Coyotes took a 3-0 lead early in the third period, the Black Hawks scored three unanswered goals to even the game at 3-3 by the end of regulation. Noah Reynolds scored off a pass from Abe Lorom that was set up by Henderson 8:28 into the period. Gavin Vining then scored a goal from a Zach Fitzpatrick pass at the 11:34 mark and Jason Collett scored a minute later off a pass from Nate DeLucca.
Elijah Matheson played in goal for the Black Hawks, making 28 saves on 31 shots.
With the win, the Black Hawks improve to 5-8-1 on the season and are now ranked fifth in the Class B standings. The top six teams make the postseason. Old Town/Orono drops to 13-1 on the year.
