HOULTON, Maine — Ash Wednesday, Feb. 14, marks the beginning of the lenten season.
Locally, St. Mary of the Visitation Church at 110 Military Street will offer Mass at 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.
St. Benedict Church of Benedicta will hold Mass at 9 a.m., and St. Agnes Church of Island Falls will celebrate at 9:30 a.m.
Lent is a period of intense spiritual renewal both for Christians who prepare to celebrate the annual commemoration of the Paschal mystery of Christ’s passion, death, and resurrection, as well as for the elect, who will be baptized and received into the full communion of the Church at Easter.
