100 Years Ago – Feb. 13, 1918
In town — Messrs. D. W. Gilman, Easton, Me., L. E. Tuttle, Caribou, Me., E. T. McGlauflin, Presque Isle, Me., and J. Frank Guiou, of Presque Isle, Me., were in town Monday to attend a directors’ meeting of the Aroostook County Patrons Fire Ins. Co.
Gone to meetings — County Administrator Charles P. Barnes is in the northern part of the county this week holding meetings regarding the food conservation program and the amount of wheat that is to be planted.
Auto show— F. F. Harrison, local manager of the E. E. Wentworth Corp., went to Bangor Friday to attend the Auto Show being held by his concern in connection with the Food Fair.
75 Years Ago – Feb. 18, 1943
25th year — Houlton Grange met Saturday in a half-day session. Worthy Master Jewett Adams presided at the business meeting, at which all officers were present. Fred Hagan gave a fine yearly report at the Grange store, which showed a good increase in business. Agent Byron Stewart gave an excellent report and was hired for the 25th consecutive year.
Moved — Miss Betty Addington, a graduate of Hodgdon High School in 1942 where she was valedictorian of her class and is now employed as teletype operator at the Houlton Air Force Base, and her mother, Mrs. Alberta Addington, have moved to an upstairs apartment in the Max Adler house.
50 Years Ago – Feb. 14, 1968
Business trip — Lawrence Russell left Saturday for Boston on a short business trip.
25 Years Ago – Feb. 17, 1993
Rescue truck — Presenting new keys for the new rescue truck to Lew Bone, town manager, was Harold Cassidy, representing Northland Motors. Also on hand were Gary Shea, president of Volunteer Fire Department, Mary Williamson, president of the Ladies Auxiliary, and Milton Cone, chief of the Fire Department. Half of the truck was paid for by volunteers and the ladies auxiliary.
Winner — Stephanie Larson accepted a Shop ‘n Save gift certificate on behalf of her mother, Rae Ann Hutchinson, from Ed Cleary, president of the Houlton Lions Club, with Skip Keegan, assistant manager at the Houlton Shop ‘n Save. Roger Chapman won the drawing of 100 gallons of oil from Weston’s Oil in Houlton.
