JOHN A. WHITED, HODGDON – John A. Whited, 85, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2018, at a Houlton long term care facility. He was born on June 24, 1932, in Houlton, the son of the late Norman and Marie (Farmer) Whited.
John graduated from Hodgdon High School and Wentworth Institute. He was an Army veteran, having served in the Korean War. He worked for a number of years in Connecticut before returning home to take over the family farm raising potatoes and oats. John served for a number of years on the Hodgdon Town Council and the Budget Committee. He was also a member of the Sno Rovers Club.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Brimley) Whited, and sons, Jeffrey P. Whited of Old Town, and Mark Whited and his wife, Theresa, of West Gardiner. He also leaves behind a granddaughter, Josie Whited, and a grandson, Thomas Whited, both of West Gardiner, as well as sisters, Marie Whited of South Portland, JoAnna Colby and her husband, Steve, of Fairbanks, AK, and Sally Higgins of Frederick, MD; brothers, William Whited of Falmouth, Henry Whited and his wife, Birgitta, of Rhode Island, and James Whited and his wife, Betty, of South Portland, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his daughter, Julie A. Whited, step-mother, Marguerite (Farmer) Whited, and his sisters, Constance “Connie” Quinn and Norma Dzaugis. John’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Abouleish and the staff at Gardiner Health Care Facility.
A Memorial Mass with military honors will be held at a later date.
