CARIBOU, Maine — The National Weather Service Office in Caribou has issued a winter weather advisory in effect from 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, to 4 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, for northwest and northeast Aroostook County, including Allagash, Clayton Lake, Madawaska, Fort Kent, Frenchville, Presque Isle, Caribou, Van Buren and Mars Hill.

Meteorologists expect mixed precipitation leading to ice. The ice will result in difficult travel conditions, including during the evening commute on Tuesday. Total wet snow accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch are expected.

Motorists should be prepared for reduced visibilities at times.

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
