HAMLIN, Maine – Robert ‘Bob’ Lloyd Deeves, 69, husband of Diane (Berube) Deeves, passed away on Feb. 16, 2018, at a Bangor hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Aug. 28, 1948, in Presque Isle, the son of Merle and Glenna (Stoddard) Deeves.
Bob served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He worked for Potato Service, Inc., in Presque Isle, for several years; and then transferred to American Kitchen Foods in Caribou, and became a production manager. Shortly thereafter, he was promoted to Plant Manager, where he worked until the company closed. He then reenlisted into the Army in 1980, and he served time in Fort Riley, Kansas, home of the Big Red One; Germany; Fort Devens, Massachusetts; South Korea; and Fort Hood, Texas. He served in Desert Storm from 1990-1991; and was medically discharged from the Army, while in Fort Hood, in 1994. At that time, he and Diane returned to northern Maine, and settled in Limestone. They also purchased a plot of land in Caswell, and built a camp where they spent many summers at the “pond”. He was a life member of the VFW in Caribou; a member of the Disabled American Veterans; and a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Bob was passionate about fishing and hunting, and loved bowling and playing baseball. One of his greatest joys was watching his grandchildren play baseball, basketball, and soccer for the Presque Isle Wildcats.
He is survived by his loving wife, Diane (Berube) Deeves of Hamlin; his daughter, Beth (Deeves) Williams, and her husband, Michael, of Presque Isle; his grandson, Jacob M. Williams of Biddeford; his granddaughter, Taylor R. Williams of Presque Isle; brothers, Victor and his wife, Claudette Deeves, of Presque Isle, and Dwinal “Deke” and his wife, Sharon, of Gardiner; and sister, Earlyne Lamoreau of Presque Isle and Inverness, Fla.; many nieces and nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
Bob was predeceased by his father, Merle Deeves; his mother, Glenna (Stoddard) Deeves Harris; his stepfather, Kenneth Harris; one brother, Darryl Deeves; and four sisters, Janice Malm and her husband, George, Paula Peterson and her husband, Dale, Wanda Bigalow and her husband, Charles “Chuck”, and Sharon Kistner and her husband, James “Jim”.
Friends and family may call from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, at Lancaster Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover St., Caribou. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Hamlin Road, Hamlin, with Father Dave Cote, officiant.
