Aroostook County has plenty of representation at the Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star Basketball Games coming up on March 10.
Two players, Kolleen Bouchard of Houlton and Emily Wheaton of Presque Isle, are among 10 semi-finalists for the Miss Maine Basketball award.
Bouchard also made the Class C/D North team along with teammates Aspen Flewelling and Kristen Graham and Fort Kent’s Cassidy Lovley. Houlton coach, Shawn Graham, will serve as one of the team’s coaches.
Wheaton is the only Aroostook County player on the AA/A/B North girls’ team. First-year Caribou coach Kayla Richards is one of the team’s three coaches.
Griffin Guerrette of Presque Isle was named to the AA/A/B North boys’ squad, while Isaac Cyr of Fort Fairfield, Cameron Cleary of Houlton and Jacob Daigle of Fort Kent earned berths on the C/D squad. Logan McLaughlin of Fort Fairfield will serve as a coach.
Wheaton also will represent the North Region in the foul shooting championship being held March 10.
Natalie Rickards of Katahdin was one of 10 girls named to the All-State Academic Team, while Jacob Daigle of Fort Kent was one of 10 boys making the elite team.
The 38th annual McDonald’s senior all-star basketball weekend includes the award banquet on March 9, held at the Anah Shrine Hall in Bangor, and the games and the foul shooting, girls’ 3-point shooting and boys’ slam dunk competitions on March 10 at Newman Gymnasium on the campus of Husson University in Bangor.
Some of the special awards presented at the banquet are Coach of the Year, the Spirit of the Game Award, the Bob Brown Contributor Award, and the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches Media Award and the Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards.
The AA/A/B girls’ game will tip off at 9:15 a.m., the AA/A/B boys’ game at 10:45 a.m., the C/D boys’ game at 1 p.m. and the C/D girls’ game at 2:30 p.m. The foul shooting championships are at 8:30 a.m., the 3-point shooting at 12:15 p.m. and the dunk contest at 12:30 p.m.
Ticket prices for Saturday’s games, which are presented by both Maine McDonald’s Owners/Operators and the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches, are $8 for adults and $5 for students 12 years old and younger. Net proceeds benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine.
