WESTMANLAND, Maine — A truck driver escaped injury, but his tractor trailer cab was destroyed following a Monday night fire on the Blackston Road.

Firefighters, trucks and tankers with North Lakes Fire and Rescue responded to a report of a truck fire at approximately 9 p.m. on the Blackstone Road, west of New Sweden.

Travis Hafford, a private trucking contractor, pulled over onto the side of the dirt haul road when he smelled smoke, then detached his trailer loaded with wood chips and moved the cab ahead several feet, according to Deputy Fire Chief John Gibson.

Gibson could not immediately confirm Halford’s town of residence. Firefighters made a “quick knock down of the fire,” which had by then consumed the entire cab of the truck.

Hafford subsequently requested Twins Wrecker Service of Fort Kent to tow the truck from the scene.

Blackstone road was closed for several hours while crews extinguished the fire and moved Hafford’s truck

There were no injuries reported and Hafford’s was the only vehicle involved in the incident
