ROCKY MOUNT, VA – Gail Vertaline (Sullivan) Wilcox, age 72, died on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at her Rocky Mount, VA, residence. She was born on November 21, 1945, in Washburn, ME, the daughter of William Leo and Marietta Annette (Anderson) Sullivan, Jr.
She was predeceased by her parents; and a sister, Diane Lynn Sullivan, who died in 1962, at the age of 8 years as a result of polio. Gail graduated from Woodland Consolidated School in Woodland, ME, where she met her childhood sweetheart and future husband, Alden Allen Wilcox. Gail and Alden were married on August 24, 1963, and were to celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary this year. They raised three sons and made their home throughout the years in Maine, Indiana, and Virginia.
Gail, a faithful servant of Jesus Christ, attended Faith Fellowship Church in Wirtz, VA for 25 years. Throughout her lifetime, she served her churches and communities in various capacities, such as nursing home volunteer, Sunday school and children’s church teacher, youth volunteer, nursery volunteer, women’s ministry volunteer, worship singer, and greeter. Gail also served as the office and financial manager for the family construction business, Wilcox Builders, Inc., for more than 35 years.
Gail is survived by her beloved husband, Alden; her son, Allen Wilcox of Rocky Mount, VA; son, Dale Wilcox and wife, Elma, of Bristow, VA; son, Barry Wilcox of Tulsa, OK; three grandchildren, Kassondra and Brittney Wilcox of Forest, VA; and Isabella Wilcox of Bristow. She is also survived by several uncles, aunts, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at Faith Fellowship Church in Wirtz, VA, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2018, with Pastor Gary Hoffman officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
