Man who murdered wife, son dies at Maine State Prison

A man doing time for murder in the Maine State Prison died early Wednesday morning, corrections officials said.

Robert Forrest died around 2:47 a.m. in the Warren prison, according to a statement from Correction Commissioner Joseph Fitzpatrick. He was 72 years old.

Forrest had been convicted of two counts of murder in Aroostook County Superior Court and was serving a serving a 55-year sentence, according to corrections records. He began the sentence in May of 1989.

Forest was convicted of killing his wife and 3-year-old son, according to a 2014 report in the Portland Press Herald.

The Maine State Police and the state medical examiner’s office were notified of the death in accordance with department policy and the Attorney General Office’s protocols, Fitzpatrick said.

A Department of Corrections official was not immediately able to provide further information about what caused Forrest’s death.
