BANGOR, Maine — A Caribou man pleaded guilty on Tuesday in federal court to possession of child pornography.
According to court records, between November 2016 and April 2017, Ryan T. Card, 22, possessed images of child pornography in his cell phone. At least one of these files, which he had sought out and downloaded from online storage accounts on the internet, depicted a child under the age of 12.
According to an affidavit, Card admitted to police that he sought out the images from others through chat applications and attempted to delete them from his cell phone before law enforcement discovered them. He also admitted that he was the only user of the phone.
Card faces up to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and between five years and a lifetime of supervised release, according to a press release issued by U.S. Attorney Halsey B. Frank.
He will be sentenced in U.S. District Court in Bangor after the completion of a presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office.
The investigation was conducted by members of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, the Caribou Police Department, and the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit.
