Local scholar-athletes to be honored

The Aroostook League’s annual scholar-athlete banquet is set for Monday, March 12, at 6 p.m. at the Caribou Regional Technology Center.

The Aroostook League invites a male and female scholar/athlete selected by each school’s athletic administrator or a coach. A buffet banquet will be served and Mark Rossignol, owner of the County Physical Therapy and an inductee into the Maine Sports Legends Hall of Honors, will be the guest speaker.

Following the meal, each student/athlete will be recognized and will receive a certificate of recognition for their success on the field of play and in the classroom.

The highlight of the banquet will be when five boys ands five girls will have their names drawn to receive a $400 award to be used for their education expenses.

Each award winner will be introduced by their school’s athletic director, who will then present a brief biography of the student/athlete. They will receive payment upon successful completion of the first semester of their freshman year.

Students chosen to attend the March 12 event are, from Ashland, Mason Moro and Micayla Driscoll; Caribou, Alec Cyr and Kyra Thibeault; Central Aroostook, Caleb Harris and Caitlyn Harris; East Grand, Thomas Gilman and Haleigh Shay; Easton, Collin Sotomayor and Isabelle Morin; Fort Fairfield, Malcolm Langner and Kayla Tisdale; Fort Kent, Niko Naranja and Jordan O’Leary; GHCA, Wesley Ganglfinger and Grace Graham; and Hodgdon, Wyatt Foster and Sydney Howell.

Also, from Houlton, Zach Fitzpatrick and Rebecca Mooers; Madawaska, Ben Hebert and Hannah Nadeau; MSSM, James Cyr and Samantha Zwecker; Presque Isle, Max Bartley and Olivia Mosher; Shead, Ethan Lank and Cassidy Wilder; Southern Aroostook, Hunter Walker and Emily Bubar; Van Buren, Brandon Sytulek and Emma Lajoie; Washburn, Macy Barker; and Wisdom, Dylan Weyeneth and Riley Theriault.
