The animals need your help

To the editor:

The Halfway Home Pet Rescue is currently running very short of supplies for the close to 200 dogs and cats we are feeding daily.

The adoption center and foster homes are currently housing over 50 cats daily and the request is for immediate help with food/litter donations.

Although the pet rescue can only supply space for cats rescued, we do still continue to feed feral cat colonies, HHPR foster cat homes and the Cat Adoption Center. HHPR provides animal meals to shut-in pet owners via the Aroostook Area Agency on Aging Meals on Wheels program for elderly homes with pets, and offers individual temporary food program for low-income, disabled and other homes that are noted for pet food needs from the Maine Animal Welfare Department.

HHPR is currently asking the public to make donations of Friskies canned cat food and Fresh Step clumping and non-clumping cat litter for the HHPR in-house cats and also various types of cat and dog food for the auxiliary emergency food programs.

Donated items can be dropped off at the Second Chance Thrift Store, located at 31 Herschel St. in Caribou, or at 11 Pioneer Ave. in Caribou.

The animals and their families greatly appreciate your help.
