FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — Police arrested an Old Town man Friday, accusing him of stealing a company vehicle from the Advance Auto Parts store in Fort Fairfield.
Police charged Darren Daylight with unauthorized use of property and felony theft, according to Fort Fairfield police officer Ryan Eagles.
Daylight’s bail was set at $500 and he was released from the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton over the weekend, Eagles said.
Eagles said that Daylight allegedly stole the auto shop’s Dodge van on Friday. The keys were left inside the vehicle, he added.
Eagles notified area law enforcement agencies about the theft and Daylight was later found on Interstate 95. Maine State Police troopers and Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office deputies took Daylight into custody without incident.
Daylight also allegedly tried to steal about $2,000 in cash that was inside the vehicle.
Eagles said such an incident is a reminder for people to lock their vehicles.
“We’re encouraging people to not keep valuables in their cars and remove the car keys.”
