PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Following a brief illness, Doris Bucci Straight, 85, passed away peacefully on February 26th, 2018. Doris was born on November 16th, 1932, in St. Leonard, New Brunswick, to the parents Giovanni and Emma Bucci. Doris was proud of her Italian heritage, for her father arrived at Ellis Island as an Italian immigrant in 1906, and moved to New Brunswick a short time after while working for the Canadian-Pacific Railroad.
Doris grew up in a French-Canadian household, speaking French exclusively until her and her family moved to Plaster Rock, New Brunswick, while she was in grade school. Doris lived in Plaster Rock with her parents and seven siblings until her mid-twenties, moving to Mars Hill, ME, shortly after meeting the love her life, Issac Straight.
Doris and Issac married in 1955, and together they moved to Easton, where they raised six children and made many memories. The two then moved to Presque Isle in the mid-80s, where they spent the rest of their lives.
Doris and Issac moved to McCulley Commons Apartments in the mid-90s, and the two made many friends there and even more memories. Doris and Issac always looked forward to seeing their family during holidays and gatherings, and had fun having company over to their apartment. After Issac died in 2003, Doris continued to live at McCulley Commons, living a peaceful life.
Doris enjoyed spending time with her family and friends more than anything else. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, cooking, listening to music, and watching the Red Sox and movies on television. Doris also adored her pet cats, most recently Lawrence and Pretty, but she had many more over the course of her lifetime. Her charismatic personality drew many people toward her, and Doris had many friends in her life whom she adored dearly.
Doris is survived by her children, Stephen and Linda Straight and their children, Issac and Megan of Holden, Linda Shaw and her husband, Jimmy, of Presque Isle and her daughter, Casey Carson, of Boston, MA, William “Bill” Straight of Presque Isle and his wife, Melissa, Nancy Russell of Presque Isle and her children, Shawn Russell of Carrabassett Valley and Katy Russell of Portsmouth, NH, Cynthia Stock and her husband, Ken, of Florida, and Ronald Straight of New Brunswick, Canada; she is also survived by her sister, Verna Green, and her brother, Eldred “Fuzzy” Bucci, both of New Brunswick, Canada.
