CARIBOU, Maine – It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, Gaylin A. Hallett, 82, on March 2, 2018, at his home. He was born in Connor, on September 2, 1935, the son of Sheldon and Ruby (Richards) Hallett.
Gaylin graduated from Caribou High School in 1952 and proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956 – 1958. Upon his return from the service, he met Madeline Wallace from Caribou and they married in 1960. He began farming on the Madawaska Road in Caribou where he grew potatoes for over 50 years.
Gaylin developed many strong relationships over the years in the community and was a good friend to many. He was very kind and always willing to help others. He liked to laugh, tell stories and, in his later years, socialize with his friends at the local coffee shops.
Gaylin enjoyed all kinds of music and was a life-long fan of the Red Sox and the Patriots. He also liked to travel and over the years visited Florida, California, Tennessee, Atlantic City, Las Vegas, New York City, and many others. He liked to visit family and friends in his travels. His most recent trip to New York City was in November with his wife and daughters. He especially liked to travel to the Portland area to see his grandchildren.
Above all, Gaylin was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He loved and was so very proud of his children and grandchildren. Gaylin was adored by his family and will be forever missed.
In addition to his parents, Gaylin was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Beryle (Hallett) and Don Swaney, and granddaughter, Danielle Hallett. He is survived by his wife, Madeline, two brothers, Gilbert Hallett and Douglas Hallett and his wife, Doreen, and four children, Alan Hallett, Robert Hallett and his wife, Jenny (Pinette), Cheryl Hallett and her husband, Chris Kidwell, and Lori Hallett. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, David Hallett and his wife, Amber, Travis Hallett, Lauren Kidwell, Henry Kidwell, Charley Kidwell, Evan Hargesheimer and Jason Hargesheimer; one great-grandchild, Madalyn Rose Hallett, and several nieces and nephews.
At his request, a private memorial service for the family will be held at the Bethel Pentecostal Church in Caribou.
