Mars Hill to vote on council candidates

MARS HILL, Maine — Residents here will be voting on new council members Monday, March 19, as well as considering a rezoning for the Silver Street property used by UniFirst.

Four candidates are vying for two Town Council positions in Monday’s election, according to Mars Hill Town Manager Dave Cyr.

The seats are currently held by Trent Lundeen and Paul Miller. Miller is running again for the seat, along with Tammy Delong, Rena Kearney and Michael Stiggle.

Later this month or next, the council also will be considering a rezoning request from A.E. McQuade, the owner of the property used by the UniFirst uniform and rental company on Silver Street.

The property is currently zoned as residential, but its current use by UniFirst, as a service establishment over the last 10-plus years, technically isn’t allowed under the residential zoning, Cyr said.

“We’re trying to bring that parcel into compliance with its existing uses,” Cyr said.

The town is holding a public hearing on the rezoning request at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, at the town office.
