WASHBURN, Maine — The Fort Fairfield Tigers are the champions in the Aroostook League Girls’ Volleyball Div. II Championships, held Monday, March 19, at Washburn District High School.
Eight teams competed and Fort Fairfield and Ashland both had 6-1 records in pool play, with Wisdom and Washburn both one game back with 5-2 marks. Hodgdon (3-4), Greater Houlton Christian Academy (2-5), Easton (1-6) and Central Aroostook (0-7) were the other teams involved in the tourney.
In the playoff semifinals, Ashland topped Wisdom, 25-13 and 25-14, while Fort Fairfield bested Washburn, 25-14 and 25-13.
In the finals, the Tigers lost the first set to the Hornets, 20-25, but came back to win the next two by scores of 25-15 and 25-21.
Makaila Beck of Fort Fairfield was named tournament MVP. Other Aroostook League volleyball all-stars were Amanda Whipple of Fort Fairfield, Megan Cote of Ashland, Cassandra Boucher of Wisdom, Carly Bragg of Washburn, Emma Drew of Hodgdon, Chloe Fekete of GHCA, Paige Flewelling of Easton and Maddison Coffin of Central Aroostook.
