Thomas Beckum of Caribou placed third in the 40-44 year-old men’s division of the 3,000-meter run at the USATF Masters Indoor Track and Field National Championships held March 16-18 at the Wayne K. Curry Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, Maryland.

Beckum, who serves as the varsity girls’ cross country coach at Caribou High School, recorded a time of 10 minutes and 8/100ths of a second, which was just shy of gaining All-American status (10:00). The winning time was 9:16.89.

He also placed sixth in the 800-meter run in 2:14.89.

Beckum had qualified for the nationals by placing second in both events at the USATF East Region and New England Masters Championships held in Rhode Island in January. He also placed second in the 800 at another USATF New England meet held at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in February.
