WESTBROOK, MAINE — Maine Democratic Party Chairman Phil Bartlett issued the following statement today after frequent LePage-foe Mike Thibodeau dropped out of the Republican primary race for governor:
“For a long time, Mike Thibodeau had been the only Republican willing to stand up and speak out against Paul LePage – and, today, he paid the price for it when he he discovered the hard way that there’s just no room for a moderate in LePage’s Republican Party.
“With Thibodeau’s exit, the Republican primary field for governor moves even further to the right, as Shawn Moody, Mary Mayhew, Ken Fredette, and Garrett Mason work hard to outcompete one another for who can be the most like Paul LePage and who will best be another four years of his failed and incompetent Administration.
“The correct answer? All of them – and that’s the last thing Maine needs.”
