NEW LIMERICK, Maine — A small group of 14 individuals spent less than 30 minutes Monday evening discussing town news and the municipal budget.

According to Town Manager Judy Nightingale, a total municipal budget of $378,115 was approved. That figure is up $2,351 from last year’s budget of $375,764. Nightingale said the slight increase was due to extra money set aside for winter roads and cemetery care.

Last year, the town’s budget was up $22,706 due to a tax abatement for Louisiana Pacific.

Among the warrant articles approved by voters were $65,000 for repair of roads and bridges in town; $93,948 for fire protection services with the Houlton Fire Department; $7,523 for ambulance services with Houlton Ambulance; $2,215 for the Cary Library; $1,000 for the Southern Aroostook Development Corporation; and $2,565 for the Houlton Humane Society

Mark Stile was re-elected to a three-year term to the town’s Board of Selectmen. He ran unopposed. There were no open seats on the SAD 70 school board this year.
