To the editor:
During the 23 years I worked for the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration, I flew all over the country, mostly for work but also for pleasure. At times I had flights routed through the airport in Newark.
Each and every time my experience was terrible. If you want to be late arriving, go through Newark, because you will circle the airport, sometimes seemingly endlessly before landing. If you make your connecting flight, consider yourself lucky.
On your departing flight, you will routinely sit on the runway waiting to take off anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours, guaranteed.
In my considerable experience of flying around the country, Newark is the armpit of airports in the U.S. and JFK Airport in New York is a close second.
Since I retired in 2002, my consulting work has taken me all over the U.S. I would drive to Presque Isle, fly to Boston and go from there. Smooth and mostly on time.
Now, I will no longer fly out of Presque Isle but will drive to Bangor and go from there.
For the life of me, I cannot understand the choice of United and Newark. I predict a steep decrease in passenger totals.
