CARIBOU, Maine — The Caribou Public Library invites the public to meet Sukhwinder Bali, Extension and sustainable agriculture professor at the University of Maine, Orono, on Saturday, March 31.

Bali will present a session on beginning gardening at 11 a.m. in the Caribou Room.

A seed swap will follow at 12 noon.

Bali currently leads the project on fly ash as an amendment source and has coordinated and organized a five-part adult educational series for farmers, gardeners and foresters that provides information on pest management, nutrient management, gardening, woodlot management, backyard poultry and apple management at Madawaska and Presque Isle.

This program is in collaboration with St. John Valley Winter Agricultural School, Madawaska and SAD 1 Adult Education. Bali’s research in agriculture is widely cited and has appeared in many leading academic journals, said Caribou Public Library Director Anastasia Weigle.

All are welcome to come by the library to pick up seeds or swap seeds. There will be refreshments and opportunities to chat about seeding and gardening. The program is free to all interested.
