The April 15 filing deadline is just three weeks away. As Mainers file their taxes and hope for a big return, they also have an opportunity to give back to those who have served.
Mainers can donate a portion of their tax return to the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery Fund, a reserve that supports the maintenance and preservation of Maine’s four veterans’ cemeteries, which includes Caribou’s Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery.
Last year, Mainers generously contributed almost $30,000 in appreciation of the service of veterans, and the Maine Bureau of Veteran’s Services is hoping to top that number in 2018.
Hundreds of thousands of Mainers have raised their right hand in service to their country and Maine’s four memorial cemeteries serve as the final resting place for more than 25,000 veterans. Accordingly, the Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Services is committed to ensuring they are honored and memorialized for their sacrifices. Generous Mainers make that possible with their tax return contributions every year.
