HOULTON, Maine — Houlton Police Chief Tim DeLuca has promoted patrolman William Janakis to the rank of corporal.
The promotion took place March 21, but Janakis was not officially sworn in until Monday, March 26, during the Houlton Town Council meeting.
“Cpl. Janakis has been on the Houlton Police Department going on three years and brings experience and knowledge to the new position,” the chief said. “Cpl. Janakis has recently been trained and assigned to the ‘PTO’ (Police Training Officer) program responsible to field train all new officers to insure they meet the high performance standards of the Houlton Police Department.”
Janakis joins Sgt. Chuck Wampler and Sgt. Matthew Quint in middle management responsibilities at the HPD, with each supervising shift personnel on a daily basis and taking on more assigned tasks.
“Cpl. Janakis will be attending a variety of training to assist him in this new position,” the chief said. “We are proud of Cpl. Janakis as he takes on this new role and carries out the mission of the department.”
The Houlton staff now includes Chief DeLuca, Lt. Theron Bickford, Detective Stephen Nason, Sgt. Wampler, Sgt. Quint, and patrolmen Rick York, Gary McGuire, Travis Smith, Benjamin Boutilier, Jasmine Cyr and Charles Heath along with Animal Control Officer Dave Rairdron.
