HOULTON, Maine — The Cary Library is one of five libraries in the state to receive grant funds from the Rose and Samuel Rudman Library Trust of the Maine Community Foundation.
Cary Library received a $900 grant which will be used to provide local support for entrepreneurs and small businesses by purchasing a six-volume reference set of “Principles of Business.”
“We applied for a Rudman grant to beef up our business resources, said Cary Librarian Linda Faucher. The reference set includes principles of accounting, economics, entrepreneurship, finance, management and marketing. Online access also is available, she said.
“The Town of Houlton has done the Entrepreneur Challenge and plan on doing so again and in evaluating our resources for business help, we found it was not very up to date,” Faucher said.
The new books should appeal to a wide range of readers, according to the librarian.
“These resources should be of value to area businesses, business students and anyone looking for help in any business decision including starting a new business,” she said.
Other 2018 grant recipients are:
— City of Rockland Public Library, to purchase print, video, and audio resources in support of the Let’s Move in Libraries project;
— Liberty Library Association, to bring author Richard Rubin to the library and to purchase books topical to veterans’ interests;
— Southwest Harbor Library, to enhance the children’s collection by purchasing the entire list of books selected by Island Readers and Writers;
— Swan’s Island Educational Association, for collection development around women in the lobstering industry and other non-traditional fields for children, young adults and adults.
Over the years, the foundation has awarded grants totaling $23,810 to 36 libraries in Aroostook, Hancock, Knox, Penobscot, Piscataquis, Waldo, and Washington counties. The grants, which range from $150 to $1,000, support programs and activities that creatively and practically integrate with a library’s collection.
