Mapleton to crown queens Saturday

The Mapleton Pageants will be held this Saturday, April 7, at the Presque Isle High School Auditorium starting at 7 p.m..  

The 2017 queens will return to participate in the show, ready to pass their crowns on to the new Mapleton queens for 2018.  

2017 Miss Mapleton, Sarah Morneault, daughter of Jeff and Regina Morneault, will lead the contingent of 2017 queens that include Junior Miss Mapleton Meg Casavant, daughter of Chris and Angel Casavant, Pre-Teen Miss Mapleton Elizabeth Wing, daughter of Rick and Stephanie Wing, and Little Miss Mapleton Madison Oakes, daughter of Bruce and Mindy Oakes.

Pageant Director Paula Shaw announced the theme of the 2018 Mapleton Pageants will be “The World is Our Canvas – How Will We Paint It?” Nine girls will compete in six pageant divisions: Mini Miss Mapleton, Little Miss Mapleton, Pre-Teen Miss Mapleton, Junior Miss Mapleton, Teen Miss Mapleton and Miss Mapleton.

The new division of “Mini Miss Mapleton” has been added this year for young pre-school age girls. Contestants for Mini Miss Mapleton include Charlotte Wardwell, daughter of David and Paige Wardwell, Aiva Elliot, daughter of Matt and Elizabeth Elliot, and Alivia Smith, daughter of Meagan Smith.

Molly Kinney, daughter of Kevin and LeRae Kinney, is the contestant for Little Miss Mapleton.

JoLea Robinson, daughter of Amanda and Raymond Robinson, is the contestant for Pre-Teen Miss Mapleton.  

There are two contestants for Junior Miss Mapleton Keira Cyr, daughter of Wayne and Danielle Cyr, and Libby Kinney, daughter of Kevin and LeRae Kinney.

The Teen Miss Mapleton contestant is Paige McHatten, daughter of Matt and Kelly McHatten.  

Kiara Lyford, daughter of Hal and Gail Lyford, is the contestant for the 2018 Miss Mapleton.

Shaw explained, “This year’s pageants will showcase the various talents of the pageant contestants and our current reigning queens.  There will be singing, dancing, stand-up comedy, musical kata (Karate) and a monologue.”

There will be group and individual performances that include the current reigning queens.

This year’s pageants are sponsored by the Class of 2019.  Tickets are on sale and can be purchased at the door of the Presque Isle High School Auditorium for $7.  Visiting queens from other communities are welcome to attend as guests.

DI Easter Fun

Last Saturday, March 31, the Destination Imagination teams held a fun day at Mapleton Elementary School.  Team members ran several activities that included Easter egg coloring, a photo booth with the Easter Bunny, balloon walk, gumdrop tower building, a bunny nose craft, pin the tail on the bunny, an egg and spoon walk, a bunny catapult, sack races and other activities.  

Destination Imagination team members’ parents assisted with refreshments and some activities.

Susan Black, Destination Imagination coordinator, thanked all who came to the fun day and supported the fundraising effort.  Funds raised from the fun day will be used to cover the expense of the MSAD 1’s four Destination Imagination teams trip the national competition at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn.  

First Friday Luncheon

The Mapleton United Methodist Church will hold its next regular First Friday Luncheon April 6 at 11:30 a.m.  The public is invited to attend. If you have missed these luncheons, please plan to attend. These luncheons are excellent times to meets friends and neighbors who you may not see too often.  There is no charge for the lunch but donations are accepted.

Directors Meeting

The monthly meeting directors meeting of the Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club will be held tonight Wednesday April 4, 2018 at 6:30 PM.  The meeting will be at the clubhouse, 94 Town Hall Road, Chapman.

Members Night

A Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club Members Only Pizza Night will be held at the clubhouse on April 7, 2018 at 6:00 PM.  Following the meal, there will be an election of officers and a discussion of summer breakfasts. For More information regarding the evening, call Sue Maynard at 764-1236.
