SAD 42 will hold registration for the pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten programs for the 2018-19 school year on Friday, April 6, at the Fort Street School. Registration is open to 4- and 5-year-old children of the Mars Hill, Blaine and Bridgewater areas.
Preschool students must be 4 years of age on or before Oct. 15, 2018. Students who will be 5 years of age on or before Oct. 15 are eligible for Kindergarten. Contact the Fort Street School (429-8514 or 429-8515) to schedule an appointment to register your child.
The state of Maine requires proof of immunizations and a birth certificate. Hospital copies of a birth record are not acceptable; a copy must be obtained from the municipal office of the town or city where you were living when the child was born. SAD 42 requires these documents at the time of registration.
If you are not a legal parent, a copy of guardianship papers (probate court) must be completed before registration.

Those students currently enrolled in the 4-year-old program do not need to register.

Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday, March 27, at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center.
The special speaker was Darrell McCrum of County Super Spuds. He spoke of the diversification of the company. In addition to the farming aspect, they now have a trucking division that delivers all their products while bringing groceries back to The County, a processing plant in Belfast and the application division, which treats apples after harvest.
When the company started, they planted 65 acres of potatoes. They now plant over 10,000 acres and employ around 220 full-time employees, 163 of them in Belfast.
The technology of farming has changed immensely, said McCrum, and the company is now using GPS units, yield monitors, optical sorters and more. They also use drones to check the field for diseases. They now look for employees who are familiar and comfortable with the new technologies.
They are also typically rotating crops every three years between potatoes, grains and grasses, McCrum said.
