I love animals and know I am not alone. Everyday we observe animals on tv, our phones, computers and books. We are reminded at the shelter that people love animals too. We frequently have people dropping off food or cleaning supplies. The mail arrives and payment from a town that we contract with, maybe some donations from our dollar challenges or a donation from one of our regular monthly givers. We also have people that drop off bottles and they are taken to local redemption center for cash.
The point that I am trying to make is everybody has something to offer the shelter. Did you know that the town contract money only covers 20 percent of our costs? I did not realize this until our board meeting the other night. The rest of our costs are paid from grants, donations and fundraisers.
I listed some ideas above but also consider that you may have something to offer and not even
know it. Maybe you sew, knit or craft and we could sell your wares at one of our events. Maybe
you are an awesome baker and we could raffle off your goodies.
Are you a business owner and would be willing to do an event where you donated a percentage of your profits to us? Do you grow something and have extra plants, fruits or veggies? Do you have quality items for a yard sale? We would love to hold a silent auction or yard sale with your stuff. Could you host a car wash or any type of event to help? Maybe you are great at writing and research and could help us secure a grant. Are you an aerobic, Zumba, or line dance teacher and would host a class to benefit the shelter? Give us some ideas too. We’d appreciate it.
Maybe you’re short on cash. You could come volunteer. We often need help with writing thank yous, cleaning, laundry, etc. I’m sure that in a few weeks we could use your help cleaning up the yard from winter, Maybe mulching the memorial flower bed, cleaning out shed, etc.
Up coming events include our ongoing spay and neuter clinics. The next one will be held on Wednesday, April 4. Please call CJ or Courtney at 532-2862 for more info and to get your name on the list. Both male and female cats are eligible for this clinic. We also will be at the trade fair on Saturday, April 7 and Sunday, April 8, with information, goods for sale and a raffle. This raffle includes original artwork, quilts, and a drone. This event will be a the Millar Civic Center.
We appreciate all the people who help in any capacity. It takes contract money, fundraisers, volunteers and love to take care of our precious animals and we are grateful beyond words. Thank you for helping.
