HODGDON, Maine — Eleven students from Hodgdon Middle-High School came home with awards from the 25th Annual JMG Career Development Conference held March 27 at Thomas College in Waterville.
“Students from around the state participated in this event, which sees youth compete in events such as public speaking, employment interviews, financial knowledge, … marketplace design/interview, and group events where teamwork and communication is a must,” said Jason Little, JMG instructor for Hodgdon. “The event has been labeled by one of our students as ‘the best event that I’ve ever been to.’”
Students must dress professionally for the competition and have many opportunities to make an impression on potential future employers, he said.

Hodgdon’s group consisted of seniors Hannah Elland, Samantha Faulkner, Brooklynn Brown, Macenzie Hipsley, Addie Woods, Kendra Gresko and Juniors Anna-Mae Sanford, Jessica Estabrook, Raveena Angotti, Josh Palmer and Dylan Jurson.
The Career Development Conference, or CDC, is held annually in spring and celebrates the accomplishments of JMG seniors as they get ready to graduate from high school and take the next step into post-secondary education or careers.
Those winning awards were: Sanford and Faulkner, first-place in online employment applications; Brown, Woods, Hipsley, Palmer, and Jurson, first-place in the rat race maze competition; and Jurson and Palmer, second-place in communications.
The entire group earned a third place award in the marketplace board setup category; and Hipsley received a $1,500 Procter and Gamble College Scholarship.
“More than 600 juniors/seniors were in attendance and it was a truly remarkable event that continues to benefit our students each year,” Little said. “Hodgdon was fortunate to take a tremendous group down and … come back with many awards.”
